Burdens, Part 2

I feel like cutting and pasting several large sections of articles by John Piper here.  He has thought through his theology of suffering (I guess that is what you’d call it) and reading his stuff has really helped me.  I’m not quite as eloquent as he is.  Here’s a list of things that I have come up with regarding suffering in my own life:

  • Suffering is not a bad thing, although it really, really hurts.
  • It happens to everyone, although “happens” is not a good term because it is not an accident.
  • The one who has suffered the most is God himself, and he became a person like me and can identify with all that I go through.
  • When I’m in the middle of suffering, I can’t see correctly and I need the perspective of other people.

God is not missing from the disappointment.  He’s not coldly looking on while I cry.  He’s present in every tear, and he’s cried with more passion than I ever will.

My idea of who God is has changed since Levi died.  Actually, I can see each major event in my life as further shaping how I see him.  Still as through a glass darkly, but ever more details of his reality.  I see more of his image in myself.

This post feels unfinished, but I need to go to bed and I want to post it.  So here it is.

    Thank you.
I was brought to tears. You might not be eloquent in the post, but you said things in a way that got right to the point and was very clear.
    Thank you.

So well put. Simple IS eloquent, the best writers only need a few words, the right ones! We can see your heart.

RUNNING HOME

My blog. Herein read entries related to who and what is important to me. Feel free to leave comments. I feel free to delete them if I don't like them. So there. By reading about my life, readers should expect to begin to see their own lives as increasingly more organized and sophisticated, their homes cleaner and neater.

Why This Blog?

Well, mostly this is for my family to see pictures and read anecdotes about the kids. It's also a venue for telling the story of my struggles and victories in my life as a Christian, a wife, a mother, and a teacher. Occasionally I toss in some weird or touching item that I've found.

What’s Christianity All About?

The Gospel is the news that Jesus Christ, the Righteous One, died for our sins and rose again, eternally triumphant over all his enemies, so that there is now no condemnation for those who believe, but only everlasting joy. [as said by John Piper]
